The Roving Artist MZ at Edobarn

This bike is an "MZ", model ETZ250, built in East Germany in the last year before the re-unification of Germany, and the subsequent modernization of the MZ factory. It still has that feeling of 1950's technology being built in the 1990's that so much Eastern block technology had. Despite it's small engine (250cc) MZ do manufacture a side-car to fit this bike, and I believe they were much used in Eastern Europe. It is a single cylinder 2-stroke with quick acceleration and very strange handling qualities..... Strangely, it is built largely of aluminium alloy, and so is light enough for me to pick it up off the floor!

To paint the bike I removed all the body parts and sprayed them with a cream coloured body paint. I painted the silhouettes and lettering by hand with enamel paint, and then sprayed it all with a clear laquer to protect the paint work.

If you're interested in finding out more about MZs you should visit the MZRC website, which has links to every conceivable site in the world about them! If you've even more time to kill you can see the photos from an MZ camping holiday that I took with Nicholas (my son) in the summer of 2002.
