Edobarn -the internet Art Gallery of Charles Burns

All artists would love to have a gallery of their own. Here's mine. This is how I would build it if I could!

In today's art world there are so many artists doing so many things, there is a huge pressure to specialize. People like to put us into boxes. Personally I've always felt that creativity has to be free to go where it will. In my case it's been to all kinds of places, as the different areas of the gallery will show. I had a lot of fun making this website, it's almost become an on-going work of art in its own right. Enjoy!

Hint: My most recent and current work is in The Collage Factory

In each room of the gallery above you will find a series of thumbnail pictures. Clicking on one of them will take you to the picture itself. You can then use the left and right arrows to go from picture to picture without returning to the room itself, or use the up arrow to return to that room. Occasionally you'll find a down arrow which will download a larger version of that picture for you.

For those of you without the time or inclination to bother with the vaguaries of image maps the main areas of the gallery are as follows:

  1. The Collage Factory. My most recent work, watercolour & torn paper collage life studies.
  2. The Main Hall. My most ambitious work, mostly dating from the 1980's. Large carved and painted triptychs on mythical subjects.
  3. The Landscape Wing. A series of drawing from the late 1980's in London's Docklands, then in a process of dramatic re-building.
  4. The Life Study Centre. A series of life drawings from the 1990's. Life drawing is a passion of mine, and acts as a grounding influence in all my work.
  5. The Computer Centre. A series of experimental life studies drawn on my laptop with a digital tablet.
  6. Kazumi's Gallery. Some of Kazumi's work, mostly dating from our art college days in the 1980's. These are some of my favourites.
  7. The Silhouette Parlour. Really a seperate web-site on its own. This my first attempt at building a website, and was first launched in 1997. I havn't changed it much since, except to add new pages from time to time. All about the history of silhouettes, which is another passion of mine.
  8. The Circus. Another seperate site. My main business website all about my current work as a silhouette artist.
  9. The Attic. Some very old work, mostly from art college days. You can see my Fine Art degree show from 1984 if you're really interested!
  10. The Basement. My attempts at caricature!
  11. The Pond, and Garden.
