"Seiza" Diameter 4ft. Oil and wax on carved chipboard circle. The circles were found in a skip in 1985, this image was last re-worked ten years later in 1995. This image forms the centre-peice of a triptych called "The Warrior and his allies".
The original inspiration for this triptych came from the work of Carlos Castenada. In re-working "Seiza" I used imagery from my own "warrior apprentiship" in the study of Shintaido.

This shows my technique of working, using a mixture of oil paint & wax (encaustic), which is often re-worked using both paint brush and chisel! These pictures are not painted reliefs as such, so much as paintings in which the wood itself is seen as a visual medium, frequently cut and re-cut through the paint.
Seiza (detail of the face). Oil and wax on carved chipboard panel.
"The Warrior and his allies" Oil and Wax on three carved chipboard circles. Total width approximately 12 feet, (depending on how it's hung!)
