In general I regard Life-drawing as essential to the life of any artist. It is the one artistic activity which I have always persued. The affinity we all feel with a picture of another human being means that these drawings are a constant challenge to the artist, not just to get them "right", but to make them mean something.
This male nude seemed to me to have taken on an emotional life of it's own, quite outside the slightly impersonal nature of the studio in which it was drawn.
